Yes, we will save our SWAH.
Save Our Acute Services is a campaign, founded in October 2022, due to the collapse of surgical workforce in our surgical department. We are an evidence based and data driven campaign.
The population of the south region of Northern Ireland must have equal access to emergency surgery when they need it and where they need it. We demand equal access to the right care in the right place and at the right time, for the 83,343 people who know we are second class in the care provided by the Western Health and Social Care Trust supported by the Department of Health.
It is our right to have as a core principle within our NHS that every citizen in Northern Ireland should live within one hour of a Type 1 Emergency Department – providing emergency medical and emergency surgical care.
Fermanagh and South Tyrone is a largely rural area and ranks as one of the most deprived areas in Northern Ireland. As a result, the population of Fermanagh and South Tyrone are understandably very concerned about the future provision of Health Services within the Southern Sector of the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT).
We demand equal access to safe urgent and emergency care services for every citizen in Northern Ireland.
SOAS are entirely in favour of the development of an NHS-staffed consultant-led overnight elective centre. We believe that a thriving elective centre will complement the delivery of sustainable urgent and emergency care.
Our geographic position should not prejudice our health and we call for an unequivocal commitment confirming the permanent reinstatement of full acute services to our South West Acute Hospital.
