A 2001 report containing a wide-ranging review of the health service in Northern Ireland – by Maurice Hayes, former permanent secretary of the Department of Health and Social Services (1983-87) .
One of the main recommendations of the report is for a new acute hospital to be built in County Fermanagh to serve the south west region.
