RQIA produced a “Independent Review of the Pathways Associated with Emergency General Surgery at South West Acute Hospital” in October 2024 .Unfortunately, they used a phrase: “This review did not identify immediate patient safety issues during the review team site visits, and review of the documents and limited data available.“

The Department of Health published the document on 29th January 2025 with a statement “. “First and foremost, the Review did not identify immediate patient safety issues arising from the pathways.“

The WHSCT said to local newspaper (Fermanagh Herald) that the review supported its own findings that there had been “no patient safety concerns” arising from the suspension of emergency general surgery.

These, however are all patient stories- all have given names to media and are published patient reports, all of which suggest patient outcomes are most definitely affected!
each of these suggest these assurances are not as the DoH and WHSCT imply…..
